From Laax with Love

Our season highlights from the world’s best freestyle resort

Laax is one of those places you can only fall in love with. And this is exactly what happened 10 years ago when I stood on the Crap Son Gion for the first time, looking at the same halfpipe I was dreaming of ever since I first saw Gian Simmen’s part in „King Size“. The past 10 years there hasn’t been one season that I didn’t at least pay one visit to this magical place.

This winter didn’t really wanted to start – blame it on climate change or whatever – but the temperatures stayed pretty high for a while. Despite the not-so-ideal conditions, the snowpark crew did an amazing job by putting together a great set-up that could keep up with Stale Sandbech and the RK1 boys their needs during early season shred sessions.

The real winter finally took off and P60, the Pro Line and the infamous Superpipe were on point just in time for the Laax Open to start. Letting apart the controversial debate about Laax Open being a part of the FIS circuit this year, the event kept up with the expectations and it was an absolute highlight! Everyone showed their skills, and in the end, Scotty James and Chloe Kim dominated over the Superpipe Podium.

The Slopestyle competition was ruled by Max Parrot and Enni Rukajarvi.

In the beginning of March, local hero Nicolas Müller and legend Terje Haakonsen hosted the epic Sudden Rush Banked Slalom. Almost 300 participants, from Pro’s to Rookies, and from kids to over 60, gathered to race down the slalom.

After the heavy snowfall in the beginning of that month, the sun came out and the slopes started to become slushy. This is the best time of the season for the many motivated jibbers out there. The young guns from the #LAAXSURFCLUB were out on the slopes, making the best out of those hot days.

Beer, sun, slush and bangers… That’s the starter pack for the most attended week of the season, the Pleasure Spring Sessions! Exclusively for this event, the snowpark crew built an awesome set up filled with hips, jumps, gaps and transitions. The Salomon Europe Team couldn’t miss the occasion to shred the awesome set up and thus gathered in Laax to spend the week together.

Once again Laax showed us why they have been crowned the World’s Best Freestyle Resort, and we couldn’t agree more with that! Thank you to the Laax crew for the good times, we are already looking forward to the next season!
