What to do in Laax when you are stuck in the valley

Festival

This is a guide for those who are stuck down the mountain because of injuries or bad weather or just because they are too lazy...

Down days, we all had some. Either the weather is too bad, your hangover is too strong or you just need a break. Spending some time off from your snowboard or skis could be challenging if you have no idea what to do. We decided to spend a day away from the slopes to discover what Laax has to offer besides its amazing snowpark. Luckily all the hot spots are centered around the resort, and therefore reachable without a car (which by the way is really convenient if you still have some booze in your blood). We found out that a downday can be pretty pleasant thing to do here in Laax and decided to make a little list of our highlights.

Brunch @Piazza

Coffee first! The best place to enjoy your morning beverage in Laax is for sure Piazza. In the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the Caffè, you can enjoy home made, seasonal and regional sourced products while reading the daily newspaper. Hot tip, the Chai Latte and the bagels are super yummy!

Shopping @Burton Store

The Burton Store has everything you need to go snowboarding, and even more! Here you can find the latest Burton snowboards, their large outerwear collection and also a wide range of softgoods. So if you run out of snowboard socks, you know where to find a new pair! If you are completely broke, just pass by and say hi, do some window shopping…that’s for free!

Shopping @Outdoor Box

The Outdoor Box is a new store here in Laax, and it’s totally worth giving it a visit! Here you can find whatever you need for your next outdoor adventure and way more. Fjallraven, Mons Royale, The Northface and Burton are only a few of the brands you’ll find in the store. The absolute highlight of the shop are the wooden surf-, snow- and skateboards from the local brand Enlain. These boards are handmade from local wood and produced here in Flims/Laax.

Skateboarding @Freestyle Academy

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a pro skater or a total rookie, at the Freestyle Academy you’ll find all kinds of different terrain, adapted to everyone’s skills. There’s a miniramp which is perfect to try your first drop-ins or rock’n’rolls. For those who like it a little bigger, there’s a smooth bowl to cruise through! There’s even a little street corner for those who are not really into transition skateboarding. And don’t worry if you forgot your skateboard, there are some you can borrow!

Coffee @Riders Lobby

The legendary Riders Palace which was already well known for its club and epic parties just got a make-over. Vintage design meets modern architecture and transforms the whole place in a very cozy livingroom. Take a seat, have a coffee and take a look in one of the bookshelves. You might find some good stuff to read!

Wellness @Signina Hotel Spa

The wellness area at the Signina hotel has everything you need to relax and regenerate. An indoor pool with waterfall, bubble-jet loungers and massage jets. The Finnish sauna (90°C), the bio sauna (55°C) and the steam bath (45°C) are for sure the highlights of this place! If you are brave enough you can even take a dip in the cold-water pool or just jump in the outdoor pool. Too bad we didn’t have time to enjoy the other treatments the spas has to offer….we heard they even give chocolate massages, sounds tasty!

Dinner @Nooba

If you like Asian food, Nooba is the right place for you, Gyoza, Pad Thai Gai, Yaki Soba are just some picks of the delicious meals on the menu. Make sure to book a table if you are planning on eating there on the weekend, because it tends to get very busy! And to end your dinner with the perfect dessert, give the coconut sorbet a try, you wont regret it!
