Interview with Silvan Jäger

December is supposed to bring cold and low temperatures, but this season is struggling to make its way to the real winter days of frozen feet and icy slopes. Somehow the magicians in Laax managed to arrange a few obstacles around their slopes despite the warmer weather. Silvan Jäger was there on his very first day back after a back injury that occurred months ago. Nicki sat down for a coffee and chatted with the Swiss machine about his widespread passion for freeskiing.

https://worthcompare.com/8l5b9444wor Your name has been big in the business for a while. Introduce yourself to the ones who still have not heard of you.
If I had to describe myself in a few sentences —first, I am a person who shares his love for freeskiing with others. Since I was young, I have been riding down hills; at the beginning with hard and heavy race skis, before I switched to freestyle ones. The energy and joy that riding gives me are why I have never stopped.
I think it’s better to stay humble and always act in a way that shows people who you really are. Studying and the lack of free time during my early years motivated me to devote all of my energy to skiing once I was able to do it. Being conscious of not becoming a professional freeskier gave me the chance to ride more freely and to focus on other things in my life.

Injuries are part of the game, but dealing with them can be difficult. What’s the physical and mental approach you take during rehabilitation?
Unfortunately, being injured is something I have had to deal with over the last years. Mentally, it involves the consciousness and the acceptance of the injury. The reality of not being able to ride for a period of your life means being patient and strong. Plus, going back on the snow requires regaining lost confidence and feelings with the skis. It is important to find that feeling of confidence with yourself and the snow. The comeback must be taken step by step, and things don’t have to be rushed or forced in any way. Taking care of your body and doing exercises during the physical rehab part is the key to get able to ride at your top level again.

https://www.goedkoopvliegen.nl/uncategorized/fhhew7vs What motivates you to come back the first day after an injury? How would you describe that feeling?
My motivation is seeing people with smiling faces because of their love for freeskiing. The feeling of freedom and joy of being in the mountains fills me as soon as I am back on the snow. Every sensation, from powder to park, motivates me to keep skiing and enjoying it with friends and people around me.

If you had to choose between being a snowboarder or a snowblader for the rest of you career, what would you pick?
Snowboarding for sure!

https://elisabethbell.com/qe8bh2ehf Your riding is balanced: urban and big park features. What do you enjoy riding most?
I think park riding is more natural for skiing. Going up on the mountains means just clicking into your bindings and riding features that someone built for you. It does not involve any special preparation. Whether you go big on jumps and rails or you just adapt your riding to the parks, there is no pressure with what you’re doing.
On the other hand, urban riding demands more work and time to arrange the set up by yourself. Shaping and shoveling a spot for hours and getting kicked out after a few tries can be frustrating at times. But, as soon as you get a shot, you immediately feel happy and excited.

My relationship with them has been going strong since 2006. It is actually my ninth year with K2. I am really happy with the trust they put into my riding, although I have not done any big contests for years, and no direct project with the brand itself. A friend of mine started a solo project of two years supported by K2 so this season I’m probably going to film a few shots for it.
